After Watching Like Sunny, Like Rain, I Learned: Some Beauty Need Not Be Spoken
- Film
- Emotion
- Cherish
A film like continuous piano — some beauty needs no explanation, only cherishing.
Keywords: music, silence, being understood, light rain and breeze
Some works, after you finish them, are hard to summarize by “plot.” They feel more like unbroken piano sound, smoothing emotion little by little: you don’t need to state a lesson at once — only, in that moment, allow yourself to be moved.
This note is what I felt after watching Like Sunny, Like Rain: about music, about understanding, about “I don’t want to say it, but I know it is beautiful.”
1|The opening piano: comfort enough to close your eyes
At the start, the piano seems to place you in a vast ocean; the heart feels open. Eyes closed, that invisible melody turns into visible strands of wind, smoothing the crease between the brows. Rising and falling notes move like every flowing cell in the body, waking the whole person.
2|Misunderstood gift: clever people can still be lonely
The boy is young, yet sharp, with a rare gift for music. He has classmates his age, but almost no one truly understands him. The young woman who happens to care for him becomes the one he will open up to. When she leaves, he speaks the film’s most moving line.
3|Why I don’t want to explain: because it is already beautiful enough
The piano through the film, the boy’s eyes, the woman’s every look — you could dress them in adjectives, but I don’t want to. I only know: all of it is beautiful.
Life should still be lived with a little refinement. On the road ahead there should be some longing. There will be disappointment, but something fine will appear. Even for one second, it is worth it. Cherish it.
4|Sunny days for meeting, rainy days for missing: I prefer “light rain + breeze”
The title: Like Sunny, Like Rain. A friend once said: sunny days are for meeting; rainy days are for missing someone.
I think: sunny, cloudy, or rainy matters less. What I care about is whether the rhythm in the left chest still has pulse — otherwise even “sunny” may only be harsh glare. Still, I prefer a cloudy day with fine rain: a little breeze, no umbrella, walking — mostly ease.
One line to close: The meaning of some works is not how beautifully you speak of them, but that they make you more willing to cherish.
